This is the flat PVC insulated, PVC sheathed cable supplied without a bare circuit protective conductor. Where an installation calls for a fully insulated protective conductor rather than the bare CPC of ordinary twin and earth, one core of the three is used as the CPC and identified green-and-yellow at its terminations. It suits damp locations and situations where a bare CPC inside the sheath is not acceptable.
Key applications
- Circuits where the protective conductor must be insulated along its whole length
- Damp or condensation-prone locations within a building
- Equipment and control connections requiring three fully insulated conductors
- Replacement of older twin and earth where the CPC has to be insulated
- Clipped direct, in trunking or embedded in plaster
Features and benefits
- Every conductor is insulated, so no bare copper inside the sheath
- Full-section protective conductor rather than a reduced bare CPC
- Flat profile installs like ordinary twin and earth
- Three identified cores allow flexibility in how the cable is used
Specification notes and limitations
Because the cable has no factory-designated protective conductor, whichever core is used as the CPC must be identified green-and-yellow at both ends, and the remaining cores identified for their actual function. Getting this wrong on a cable that looks like ordinary flat three core is a real risk on later alterations, so clear labelling at the board matters. The PVC limits are the same as the rest of the range: 70 °C conductor temperature, derating for thermal insulation and grouping, no mechanical protection, not for direct burial, and not for exposure to sunlight.
