YY is a multicore PVC control cable with numbered black cores under a grey PVC sheath, used to wire control and instrumentation circuits between panels, sensors and machinery. The numbered cores make termination and fault-finding straightforward on cables with many conductors. It is an unscreened, unarmoured cable intended for indoor use in dry to moderately damp conditions.
Key applications
- Control wiring between panels and machinery
- Conveyor and production line control circuits
- Signalling and interlock wiring inside plant rooms
- Measuring and sensor circuits where no screening is required
- Wiring in trunking, conduit and cable tray indoors
- Panel-to-panel interconnection on machine tools
Features and benefits
- Numbered cores speed up termination and tracing on multicore runs
- Available in a wide range of core counts, from 2 up to 50 and beyond
- Class 5 stranded copper handles occasional flexing and routing in tight panels
- Compact overall diameter for the number of cores carried
Specification notes and limitations
YY has no screen, so it offers no protection against electromagnetic interference and should not be used for analogue instrumentation signals running alongside power or inverter cables — a screened cable such as CY belongs there. It has no armour and no UV-stable sheath: it must not be buried, run outdoors in direct sunlight, or used where it can be struck or crushed. Keep bends well above the manufacturer's stated minimum and reserve the cable for occasional rather than continuous flexing; YY is not a drag-chain cable. At 300/500 V it is unsuitable for 400 V power circuits, and PVC should be kept clear of hot pipework and inverter heatsinks.
