TV and Satellite Coaxial Cable

TVCOAX

BS EN 50117 series, coaxial communication cables

A 75 ohm coaxial cable built for terrestrial television, satellite reception and cabled distribution, with a foam dielectric and a foil plus braid screen to hold signal loss and ingress down across the full satellite band. The foil layer handles high frequency screening and the braid handles the lower frequencies and provides the mechanical earth path, which is why both are present. UK trade designations such as CT100, CT63 and CT125 sit alongside the American RG6 and RG59 numbers for cable in this class.

Key applications

  • Terrestrial aerial downleads and distribution
  • Satellite dish to receiver runs across the full LNB output band
  • Communal aerial and satellite distribution systems in flats and hotels
  • CCTV video links on analogue systems
  • Cabled distribution and CATV drop cabling
  • Loft and riser distribution through splitters and amplifiers

Features and benefits

  • 75 ohm impedance matched to television and satellite equipment
  • Gas injected foam polyethylene dielectric reduces attenuation
  • Combined aluminium foil and braid screen limits ingress and egress
  • Performance maintained to the top of the satellite intermediate frequency band
  • Sheath options including PVC, LSF, LSZH and external grade polyethylene

Specification notes and limitations

Satellite and aerial systems need the screen earthed and bonded in line with the equipment maker's instructions and BS 7671, particularly where a dish or mast is mounted outdoors and may pick up induced surges. Use a cable with a UV stable, external grade sheath for any outdoor run, and form a drip loop before entry so water tracks away from the building rather than into it. Keep coaxial runs clear of mains cabling: as well as the segregation requirement, close parallel runs are a common source of picture interference.
