Two parallel PVC insulated stranded copper conductors joined in a figure-of-eight profile, used for loudspeaker connections and other two-wire extra-low-voltage runs. One conductor carries a ridge, a stripe or a different insulation colour so polarity can be kept consistent from amplifier to speaker. It is a convenience construction rather than a standardised cable type, so conductor sizes and strand counts vary between suppliers.
Key applications
- Loudspeaker connections in domestic and commercial audio systems
- Ceiling and wall speaker runs in distributed audio installations
- Public address and background music loudspeaker wiring
- Extra-low-voltage DC power runs where polarity must be maintained
- LED strip and display lighting supplies on an extra-low-voltage circuit
- Automotive and marine accessory wiring on low voltage circuits
Features and benefits
- Figure-of-eight profile separates easily for termination without a stripping tool
- Polarity marking on one conductor keeps speaker phasing consistent
- Stranded conductors stay flexible for repeated routing and dressing
- Range of cross-sections lets longer runs be sized up to limit resistive loss
- Available in white, black and clear or translucent sheaths
Specification notes and limitations
This is not a mains cable and must not be used as a flex or connected to a mains circuit, because the bonded parallel construction has no overall sheath and offers no mechanical protection. Keep it segregated from mains wiring in trunking and conduit. On long loudspeaker runs, size the conductor for resistive loss rather than for current carrying capacity, since the practical limit is the loss of damping factor and output rather than overheating.
